About Yahoo!

Yahoo!, Global Internet Service Company, is co-founded by David Filo and Jerry Yang in January 1994 and incorporated as Yahoo! Inc. on March 2, 1995. Initially it was named as "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web" which was a directory of other sites organised in a hierarchy. The directory proved a big hit and it receive one million hits by the end of 1994. Looking at the success of directory David and Jerry decided to  incorporate their company. In April 1994 the directory is renamed as "Yahoo" meaning "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth". Later a sign of exclamation is added to Yahoo to make its logo "Yahoo!". On 12 April 1996, Yahoo had its initial public offering, raising $33.8 million dollars, by selling 2.6 million shares at $13 each.  After that company never looked back, it has done a number of acquisitions and a number of important decisions   by which it has progressed a lot. Now Yahoo has around  412 million unique visitors with 3.4 billions page views per day in 25 countries and 13 languages. Its headquarter is located at Sunnyvale, California. After incorporation Yahoo! has changed the communication style of people.


Initially, Yahoo! has offered a directory and some internet services but now it enlarged its area of services a lot covering communication services that include  Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger, Yahoo! Calendar, Yahoo! Chat, Yahoo! Greetings, Yahoo! Clubs and Yahoo! Photos, also give essential, personalized, localized and timely information on wireless devices, including wireless phones, two-way pagers and personal digital assistants; commerce services which include  Yahoo! Shopping, Yahoo! Auctions, Yahoo! Finance and Yahoo! Travel, provides its commercial sevices to both small and big businesses, Corporate Yahoo!, an information portal solution, enables companies to communicate and interact directly with their employees, customers and shareholders over a secure and scalable platform. Yahoo! Broadcast Services is the leading provider of Internet audio and video streaming solutions for corporate and consumer communications, delivering thousands of live and on-demand, corporate events including: product launches, marketing programs, training/distance learning, keynote addresses, annual shareholder meetings, and quarterly earnings calls and its services like Yahoo! Domains, Yahoo! Website Services, Yahoo! Servers and Yahoo! Store helps small businesses; content and media programming in popular areas of interest, including Yahoo! Sports, Yahoo! Music, Yahoo! Movies, Yahoo! News and Yahoo! Games;  marketing services which include Yahoo! Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang (co-founder of Yahoo!) is a Taiwanese native raised in San Jose, California. He had B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University and is currently on a leave of absence from Stanford's electrical engineering Ph.D. program. Since the company's founding, he is a key member of the executive management team. His technological vision, strategic business partnerships, international joint ventures, and recruiting key talent has made Yahoo! the world's leading search engine. Mr. Yang currently serves on the board of directors of Cisco Systems, Yahoo! Japan, and Alibaba, and is also on the Stanford University Board of Trustees.

David Filo
David Filo (co-founder of Yahoo!) is a native of Moss Bluff, Los Angles. Filo had a B.S. Degree in computer engineering from Tuleno University and an M.S. Degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He is currently on leave from Stanford's electrical engineering Ph.D. Program. He is the technical hand behind the company's global network of web properties. He is credited with helping build Yahoo! into the world's most highly trafficked website and one of the  internet's most recognized brands.
